Psalm 23-ish

Psalm 23 for the teacher. -christyfitzwater.com

Since school begins for me today, I present to you my version of Psalm 23 from the teacher’s perspective:

Me –clearing throat:

The Lord is my administrator,

I shall not be in want.

He makes me walk into a teacher’s work room

with new copiers and a fresh supply of colorful card stock.

He leads me to a quiet teacher’s lounge

where the coffee is always fresh and the fridge is always clean.

He guides me in class periods where I do what is right for 43 minutes

for his name’s sake.

Even though I cram 22 freshmen into my room,

I will not be afraid

I will not be afraid

I will not be afraid

for you are with me.

You are with me?!

Your walk-throughs,

they comfort me.

You prepare a PTO snack table before me in the presence of students who would rather be checking the March Madness score than learning Spanish.

You pour your grace over me as I labor over lesson plans.

My class time is filled with students raising their hands and sighing wistfully when the bell rings, as they leave speaking Spanish to one another in the hallways.

Surely goodness and love will follow me into the classroom

for 180-some days,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord -like a spring break that lasts

forever.

Christy, Your comments are so real & from the heart that I am encouraged daily that I am not alone when I am struggling in this rough world, where I know God resides within me but it is a daily, sometimes minute by minute, reliance on Him. But we know from “yesterday” that he is able to carry us when we are down, afraid, panicky, etc. He walks in us, around us, & urges from behind – we are never alone.

Thanks for you posts – I have been so encouraged. I work at FHS high school so I know the feelings of inadequacy very well but he provides!

    1. Oh wow -you work at Flathead? I’m at Stillwater. It would be so fun if we could cross paths some day. Thanks for this encouragement word. I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who struggles.

  2. Awesome!! You are amazing!

    1. What a great cheer for me this morning! That’s for that encouragement.

I just delight in taking God’s word into my everyday circumstances.
