If Everything Is Going Wrong Before Christmas

Why Your Christmas Decorations Matter -christyfitzwater.com

I was sanding plantar warts off of the bottom of my feet with a pumice stone just now. Covering them with duct tape for a few weeks got rid of them for months of pain-free walking. But they just started to return, so I’m back in the rotation of covering them for the night with duct tape and then sanding them off in the morning. It was the least Christmasy-thing I could be doing. I laughed, looking at the wreath hanging in the bathroom juxtaposed against my foot hanging over a trash can with wart crust (wart dust? wart debris?) flaking into it.

We have all of the Christmas vibes going on here. At 5:00 our entire house comes alive with flameless candles piercing through the dark that is winter solstice. There are a variety of homemade Christmas goodies on the ledge above the kitchen sink. The Christmas tree gives a soft glow to the living room.

Enter: warts on your feet. Candles and sugar cookies and warts. Socks stuck to your foot because of duct tape adhesive. Nice.

It’s close to Christmas, and this morning I talked to three separate people and heard the following stories of folks we know: recovering from surgery, sewer backed up, mental health challenges, coming home from rehab, down with the flu, wifi and TV out, impending surgery, pinched nerve, and hacking cough. We live in a world of hurt.

Also, it’s December in Montana and there’s no snow or any signs of snow coming. We are sad.

So I’m talking about warts. Jesus came because we’re broken and everything and everyone around us is broken, and he’s the only one who offers love and acceptance and a some-day of no sickness and no tears and no death. Someday there will be no need for duct tape.

What’s your list of ailments and catastrophes in your home right now? Those are what make this a perfect Christmas. The pile-up of things falling apart makes this just the right time to celebrate a Savior. We’ve never needed him more.

  1. May the LORD heal your warts. This is my Christmas Present to you! I have shared this WT info with many friends, and it worked every time… https://chezbettay.com/pages/health1/h_warts1.html
My ex-husband suffered from plantar warts and went through many painful procedures. I referred him to this article, he followed it, and the warts DISAPPEARED! Yes, just two simple, cheap vitamins in larger doses.

You are so awesome! I love your stories and your humor! God is such a blessing to all of us! I like many others was sitting having a pity party! I have
had planter facilities going on for 4 months! It is soooo slow going away! But you make me laugh and know I am not alone! We all need to stick together! Love you Christy❤️

    1. Oh man. Matt’s been struggling with plantar fasciitis for a long time, too. It’s so frustrating. May the Lord heal your feet!

  3. Christy, you saved my day. This mess is why Jesus came, it’s why Christmas is good news and great joy. Thank you. Merry Christmas!

  4. Oh wow. Yes how I needed this. Work schedules at my warts. My husband, a Fire Captain, is sitting at work ready to go on forced assignment and will miss Christmas and all the things. We were already pivoting to celebrate on the Eve because of work, and now there’s no return date in sight. Three kids to pivot with and magic to make. Exhaustion is real and I need God’s strength in, with, and through me. Gratitude that we are not the ones living in an area they are protecting. Gratitude that my kids are resilient and older. Gratitude that I have permission to lay it at the feet of Jesus and let Him fill the day with His glory. And also gratitude that He specializes in sitting with me in the yuck, even before the beauty. And still, this. Just. Sucks.

    1. Oh man. I’m so sorry! This gives me mixed emotions of pride in who your husband is a rescue hero and complete sadness that he won’t be with you at Christmas. My husband is a pastor, so I know how it feels to love a man who has to go take care of other people and leave the family at often the worst times. I pray the Lord will give you a deep inner calm and acceptance of this trial, so that you can have a sincere heart of worship that will overflow onto your children and impact them for years to come.
