Happiness Is Possible

I’ve been unhappy this week.

Because I’m so tired of when people say they know Jesus but they’re not happy –not just having-a-bad-day unhappy but having-a-bad-life unhappy.  Like every time I see them or talk to them I can expect them to be unhappy.  And I think, How can you say you know Jesus but be so unhappy about everything all the time?  So frowny and shoulders slumpy and complaining?

Then my husband thinks I’m nuts.  He says, So you’re unhappy that people are unhappy?

Yes.

Last night I taught the kids at church Psalm 112:1 (HCSB), “Hallelujah!  Happy is the man who fears the Lord, taking great delight in His commandments.”

H*A*P*P*Y

There’s the word, right in the Bible.

happiness

Happy is the woman who is full up with thoughts of God’s awesome glory and equally glorious commandments.

It’s like my favorite hymn:

“There’s within my heart a melody;

Jesus whispers sweet and low,

‘Fear not, I am with thee, peace, be still,’

In all of life’s ebb and flow.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,

Sweetest name I know,

Fills my every longing,

Keeps me singing as I go.

Could you please seek happiness in Jesus today?  Because I just can’t be happy until I’ve convinced you to live happy.

  1. Just read psalms 8 today and thinking about the majesty of God I was filled with joy. I have recently been learning about God’s desire for us to have joy, it has been an amazing experience! Thanks for the challenge 🙂

    1. John Piper is one of my favorite preachers, and he talks so much about how “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him”. I love the thought that my joy brings God glory!
