Big Sigh Monday

You know, TBT (Throw-Back Thursday) is all the thing on social media. But every time I sit down to write for a Monday I often do a shoulder-raising inhale followed by a slump, so how about Big Sigh Monday as a new trend?

I sit at my computer this Sunday evening. We just finished burgers followed by brownies at my mother-in-law’s. This followed by lounging around an intriguing episode of Wicked Tuna, which we kept muted for fear of cussing sailors.

Then crept in the pre-fatigue talk.

One conversation with our kids about car insurance, and all of a sudden we were thinking of all the things we have to take care of this week. There’s so much to do that’s not nearly as exciting as burgers with a side of watermelon on a summer evening.

Now how about this –my little nephew ran a kids’ triathlon today.

You probably wouldn’t like it, he told me. You have to breathe hard and use your muscles.

Perceptive, this young one.

Funny that my preacher man just encouraged us about running the race of faith. I think he said the same thing.

You have to breathe hard and use your muscles. Every day -not just on the day you go to church.

“…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

The week ahead of us will be hard, but we know this and keep going.

After the sermon on Hebrews this Saturday night, we were invited to go up to the front and grab a racing number, as a reminder that we are people who keep going.

Keep trusting that God loves us and is with us.

After I got my number I laughed and whispered in my man’s ear, This is probably the only way I’m ever gonna wear one of these.

Monday begins the challenges of a new week. Ready?

So here we are on a Monday.

We’ll have to breathe hard this week.

And use our muscles –the ones that believe God is who he says he is and will do what he says he will do.

Here we go.
